About

Gordon Greenwood

Live performance collage

Gordon Greenwood was born into a family of working musicians. His parents, Lynn & Korene Greenwood, spent 16 years on the road full time, including much of Gordon’s childhood. Music was not simply something he grew up around. Rehearsals, gigs, travel, and the working life of a musician were part of everyday life from the beginning.

Back home in Ogden, Gordon’s musical upbringing continued through a close circle of musicians who helped shape him, including the Kap Bros, Dicky Martinez, Korene Greenwood, Bad Brad Wheeler, Scotty Haze, and Daniel Weldon. That community, along with the foundation laid by his parents, eventually led him to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

After studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Gordon built a career around playing, touring, recording, and teaching. He currently tours and records with Tony Holiday and performs with Austin artist Jordan Matthew Young. Depending on the lineup, he also performs alongside Jad Tariq and Laura Chavez. His past work includes playing in Monty Powell’s band, serving as bandleader for the Drifters in the Mountain West, and touring as a member of Vanessa Collier’s band.

Across his career, Gordon has opened for Willie Nelson, Steve Miller, The Wailers, Warren Haynes, The Marshall Tucker Band, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, The Blind Boys of Alabama, JJ Grey & Mofro, Charlie Musselwhite, Samantha Fish, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Andy Frasco, The Motet, and Junior Brown.

At the center of Gordon’s own work is a lifelong pull toward soul, groove, and original music. His songs and live performances draw from the funky soul sound that has shaped his musical identity, with an emphasis on feel, strong musicianship, and making music that connects with the room.

When Gordon is home in Ogden, he teaches guitar and works with students of all ages and experience levels. Teaching, touring, writing, and performing all come from the same place for him: a lifetime spent around music, learning from other players, and staying connected to the people in the room.
